Well, it;’s been a while since I looked at my High Desert website, and it’s been a hell of a year. I have been fired (as a physician) and on the dole for a few weeks (as a physician) and taken some odd and weird jobs. I do love taking care of people, so I managed to get back around to that. Maybe I can explain some more as follows. But that took up quite a bit of my attention recently.
Here’s something to think about that I do admire, from the science fiction author Robert Heinlein:
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
-Robert A. Heinlein
That’s why I became a primary-care generalist in medicine. I couldn’t imagine same day, day-after-day, same thing. A fisherman who catches one’s own fish, finds it tasty.
Say, you can also come see me as Steve deBurque on Flicker, if you like.
